oxidation, inflammation, phospholipidosis and cell death

(apoptosis and autophagy)'

 

The group managed by Gérard Lizard, inside the team Bio-peroxIL (Director: Gérard Lizard), is interested in studying i) the incidence of peroxisomal deficiencies on neuronal cells (oligodendrocytes, astrocytes, and microglial cells) and ii) the impact of very long chain fatty acids on neurons in the field of peroxisomal leukodystrophies and Alzheimer’s disease, respectively. The consequences of peroxisomal defiencies on oxidative stress and inflammation (cytokinic and non cytokinic) are studied. In this context, the part taken by oxysterols, mainly those produced by autoxidation, is investigated. We are also interested by the biological activities of phytosterols present in argan oil (spinasterol, schotenol) and by their ability to prevent cell death, oxidative and/or inflammatory disorders. In various neurological diseases (peroxisomal leukodystrophies, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease), we attempt to define whether some oxysterols can constitute potential biomarkers.
