What is a PhD?
PhD is the abbreviation of the Latin expression Philosophiae Doctor, Doctor of Philosophy. It is the highest level of specialised education recognised worldwide. PhD studies prepare students to achieve a high degree of specialisation and expertise in a discipline and to contribute to the development of new knowledge. In Italy the selection of PhD candidates involves a competitive examination advertised in a yearly Call.
