Final Defence

Dissertation and award of PhD

The title of Ph.D. is awarded following the positive evaluation of a research thesis that contributes to the advancement of knowledge or methodologies in the chosen field of investigation.

Doctorate, accompanied by a summary (summary), is written in English or in another language subject to authorization by the Scientific Board.

Within the end of the last year of the course, the doctoral student is required to submit a detailed report on the activity carried out during the last year (5-6 pages) to the Scientific Board; the positive assessment of the teaching staff on the activity of the last year of the course is a condition for admission to the final exam.

The report approved by the tutor must be submitted at the beginning of September and sent to dottorato.mts@unito.it.

Subject to a positive evaluation of the activity of the last year of the course, the Scientific Board proceeds, for each PhD student, after consulting the tutor, with the appointment of at least two reviewers (plus at least one alternate), and establishes the deadline for the presentation of the thesis to reviewers. The reviewers must be highly qualified professors, external to the University of Turin, to the affiliated universities that compete for the award of the Doctorate degree and to the Scientific Board and must not have publications in common with the doctoral students. Auditors can assume this function for multiple candidates.

The supervisors will have to communicate by the end of July 2 reviewers plus a substitute to dottorato.mts@unito.it.

The thesis, which must be accompanied by a report by the student on the activities carried out (portfolio) during the course of the doctorate and a summary of the thesis, is sent by the student to the reviewers.

Reviewers will have 1 month to submit their evaluation according to the form and which you must fill in with the known information.
