Course objectives
The main objectives of the course are:
- provide students with knowledge on the main features of three dimensional (3D) cell culture platforms (i.e., spheroids, organoids, bioreactors), and other innovative technologies (i.e., microfluidics, bioprinting) able to better recapitulate human diseases;
- provide students with the ability to evaluate advanced cell culture methods for their own research.

Program
This course includes two appointments of 4 hours each.
Before the start of the course, an online quiz will be provided to assess prior knowledge.
The first appointment will be dedicated to the teacher's presentation of the main advanced cell culture models. During the same meeting, the students will then be divided into small groups; each student will briefly present the topic of his/her research to their classmates and will try, with their help, to identify one/more advanced experimental models able to improve the quality of their research.
Then, on the basis of the information obtained from the teacher, the suggestions of the classmates, and scientific literature, each student will prepare a short PowerPoint presentation to illustrate the identified advanced experimental model/models. The oral presentation, followed by a brief question and answer session, will take place at least 30 days later during the second appointment.
Moreovers, optional practical lessons in small groups about spheroid cultivation will be provided to the interested students.
